Hello friends and welcome to my website. My name is Sarah Watson and I am a surface pattern designer.

I started drawing, later in life during lockdown. Initially, sitting in my garden or asking dog walkers if I could take photos of their pets. Having built my skills in pencils, watercolour and acrylic, I learned how to develop my work as a digital artist. The leap to digital illustration has opened a world of possibilities, allowing me to create joyful patterns in my own style using my original mediums and place on apparel, home décor, wallpaper and fabrics.

While I remain deeply connected to the tactile pleasure of pencil on paper and the unpredictable magic of watercolour, digital tools have allowed me to push my work in new directions, exploring and editing compositions while maintaining a painterly style.

My portfolio reflects this spirit of experimentation. I am inspired by nature around me, our connections to animals and plants. I want to develop a body of work that brings my love of the natural world into home furnishings and household items.

The digital medium lends itself beautifully to storytelling; my drawings hold deep personal meaning and reflect the emotions they evoke in me or the smell of a field of lavender.

My first collection, “Unfurling,” captures that delightful fresh time of year when the first small flowers erupt from the dark soil, the first bumblebee or butterfly appears to join the birds' chorus, and frogs begin to collect in the pond.
